About Imam Hossein Islamic Society
Imam Hussein Islamic Society (IHIS) is a new Shia Islamic society established by Iranian followers of AhlulBayt - peace be upon them - in Edmonton. The core of the Iranian Islamic community has been started years ago by organizing weekly prayers and programs for Islamic events such as holy month of Ramadan, Muharram and Safar in community members’ homes or community halls. With increased participation from community members, we have decided to establish a Shia Islamic center as a Husseinieh, to provide basic facilities for Islamic prayers and events. Hence, after a long period of communications and negotiations between servants of AhlulBayt (PBUT), a constitution and bylaws were drafted and the members of the board of directors were elected through a secure voting of Iranian fellows in a general meeting.
According to our bylaws, IHIS shall support and spread the Islamic teachings and rules according to the school of the Ithna Ashari (Ja'fari) Shia. Besides the first goal of establishing a Husseinieh, this society is going to run and expand religious, cultural and educational programs with the conformation of Shia scholars to maintain religious activities in Edmonton. These activities include Qur'an teaching, recitation and interpretation, as well as Islamic studies for various age groups. The society intends to continuously collaborate with other religious institutions in Edmonton and other cities in Canada. Our society is a not-for-profit, charitable organization and all its programs are supported through donations and volunteer activities of the followers of AhlulBayt (PBUT). It is worth mentioning that the society does not have any political, social or financial affiliations to any organization. We kindly invite all Muslims and lovers of AhlulBayt (PBUT) who are willing to support Shia Islamic groups to share their values with us and help us to build a Husseinieh in Edmonton.
Alhamdulillah, we have been granted religious permissions for using part of Khums for this Islamic cause by a number of Maraje’ Taqleed in Iran and Iraq. The complete information is available in our website at ihisedmonton.com/permissions.
